About VetPlus Urinaid Urinary Tract Supplement

Some dogs keep getting bladder trouble: asking to go out more often, squatting with little coming out, or urine that smells strong. Once your vet has found the cause, owners often want something that helps keep the urinary tract healthy day to day.

VetPlus Urinaid is a bladder support tablet for dogs. It combines D-mannose and cranberry, two ingredients widely used for urinary tract health, with pomegranate and ashwagandha.

VetPlus says Urinaid supports the urinary tract in several ways. D-mannose helps stop E. coli bacteria from sticking to the bladder wall, so they are flushed out in urine. Cranberry adds proanthocyanidins, plant compounds with a similar anti-stick action. Most dogs take the tablets as a treat.

Ingredients

Active ingredients per tablet, as VetPlus lists them:

Ingredient What it does
D-mannose, 200mg A natural sugar that helps stop E. coli bacteria from sticking to the bladder wall.
Cranberry, 125mg Contains proanthocyanidins (PACs), plant compounds that also help stop bacteria from sticking. VetPlus says it helps acidify urine and reduce odour.
Pomegranate, 75mg A source of antioxidants. VetPlus says it helps bind bacteria.
Ashwagandha, 40mg A herb used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. VetPlus includes it for its calming, tension-relieving action.
Tribasic calcium phosphate Part of the tablet base.

Features and Benefits

  • D-mannose and cranberry together. Two well-known urinary ingredients that work on stopping bacteria from sticking, not on killing them.
  • Palatable tablet. VetPlus says most dogs see the tablet as a treat, so it is easy to give every day.
  • Dose by weight. From 1 tablet a day for small dogs to 3 a day for dogs over 30kg.
  • Once a day. VetPlus says the full daily amount can be given at once, at any time of day, with or without food.
  • For long term use. Suits dogs your vet wants on ongoing urinary support.

How Much to Give

Daily amounts from VetPlus. Your vet may advise more.

Dog weight Tablets a day
Under 10kg 1
10 to 19kg 1½
20 to 29kg 2
30kg and over 3

VetPlus says the amount can be increased if needed, but ask your vet first.

How It Works

  • Anti-stick action. Most bladder infections start when E. coli bacteria cling to the bladder lining. D-mannose and cranberry PACs make it harder for them to hold on, so they wash out in urine.
  • Urine. VetPlus says cranberry helps acidify urine and reduce its odour.
  • Calm. Ashwagandha is included for its tension-relieving action, which VetPlus links to bladder comfort.

How to Use

  • As a treat. Give the tablet from your hand, or crumble it into food.
  • Once a day. Give the full daily amount in one go. Time of day does not matter.
  • Half tablets. For the 1½ tablet dose, break a tablet in half and keep the other half for the next day.
  • Water. Keep fresh water available at all times. A dog who drinks well flushes the bladder more often.
  • Storage. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.

Safety and Precautions

  • Not a medicine. Urinaid is a supplement. It does not treat a bladder infection, bladder stones or incontinence. Those need your vet.
  • See your vet. Blood in the urine, straining, crying when peeing, or peeing very often all need a vet check.
  • Older dogs. Leaking urine in an older dog can be a sign of kidney disease or other illness, so ask your vet before relying on a supplement.
  • Puppies. Do not give it to young puppies unless your vet advises it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Urinaid used for?

Urinaid is a supplement that supports a healthy bladder and urinary tract in dogs. Vets often suggest it for dogs prone to repeat bladder infections, alongside their treatment plan.

How many Urinaid tablets should I give?

VetPlus advises 1 tablet a day under 10kg, 1½ for 10 to 19kg, 2 for 20 to 29kg and 3 for 30kg and over.

How long does a pack of 60 last?

It lasts 60 days for a dog under 10kg and 40 days for 10 to 19kg. It lasts 30 days for 20 to 29kg, and 20 days for 30kg and over.

Does Urinaid treat a urine infection?

No. It is a supplement, not an antibiotic. A dog with signs of infection needs a vet visit and, often, a urine test.

Can I give Urinaid with food?

Yes. VetPlus says it works the same with or without food, and at any time of day. Many owners give it as a treat.
